Middle Years Program
Phoenix Academy is an IB World School for the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme.
IB World Schools share a common philosophy—a commitment to improving the teaching and learning of a diverse and inclusive community of students by delivering challenging, high quality programmes of international education that share a powerful vision.
Students in our middle school receive instruction geared towards mastery of the NC Standards and IB curriculum. Students are challenged to think outside the box by applying information to real world situations. The curriculum is challenging and assessments are rigorous. Our teachers are caring and diligently working to develop and equip students with the skills needed to be successful.
At Phoenix, students are encouraged to develop a love for learning and explore interesting topics in all subject areas. Learning takes place in a variety of ways. Student study topics in whole group, individually, and in teams. Students take part in discussion groups, and participate in project-based learning. Students learn through research and have online resources at their fingertips!
Phoenix teachers strive to provide students with tools to properly prepare them for rigorous and meaningful assessments. Students in turn have to apply themselves to rise to the challenges set in all classes.

- Orchestra, chorus, band and arts
Phoenix students have access to web-based programs that are designed to meet and challenge each student’s academic and developmental levels. The web-based programs Dreambox (for math) and I-Station (for reading) form an integral part of the math and reading instruction and can be accessed from school and at home.
Students are privileged to have access to laptops provided by the school. These devices are used to do research, create presentations and access online materials posted by teachers as part of the learning process.
Students in all grade levels are required to service learning hours. Service learning is our students’ way of making a difference in the community and to extend their classroom learning. It is also a way for students to discover their individual passions that can make the world a better place.
