I was born and raised in Pretoria, South Africa. After my high school graduation I moved south to study at the beautiful University of Stellenbosch. I completed my Bachelors Degree in Education, and then completed an honor’s degree in Education the following year. I met my husband in South Africa, and in 2001 our family embarked on the adventure of moving to North Carolina. I taught in Guilford County for three years and was nominated as teacher of the year during my second and third year there. The following year I joined the Phoenix Academy team, where I’ve served in many capacities. I volunteered in fourth grade, taught fifth, sixth and seventh grade Reading for two years, one of those years as the middle school team leader. The next year, I moved to second grade and helped to develop our grade’s yearly map, and worked as co-chair of the curriculum committee. During this time, I was also honored to be elected as teacher of the year at Phoenix Academy. I then moved down to kindergarten for two years, still serving as a member of the curriculum committee, but training a new committee leader. At the end of last year, I was invited to join our school’s administration team. I’m currently serving in a vice-principal position, with the focus on curriculum. I’m enjoying the challenges that this new position holds as well as the demand to grow and learn continuously!
